Ah, America. Land of the free and home of the brands that will bake ISIS cakes for its citizens. Walmart, of all places, is apologizing for this mishap after refusing to bake cake with a Confederate flag on it for a customer in Louisiana (shocking).
After the Walmart in question refused to fulfill an order for a customer who requested that an image of the Confederate flag be featured on a cake, the customer decided to push the envelope and requested a cake bearing the Islamic State’s so-called “battle flag” instead. And guess what? Yep, you guessed it. Walmart went right ahead and baked the ISIS cake.
The customer, Chuck Netzhammer, then posted on YouTube:
“I am highly offended, distraught, and in tears over the fact you pull American history off your shelves, but allow the offensive battle flag of terrorists, sex slavers, be-headers of Christians, burners of gays to be made in your store.”
Nothing like a man who requested a CONFEDERATE FLAG CAKE to be offended by imagery of another symbol of intolerance and hate. (All in the name of “history,” though!)
A couple of things immediately spring to mind here. First of all, since when does Walmart bake cakes? Secondly, what the hell kind of get-togethers are happening where this man thought a Confederate flag cake was a party must-have? And lastly, when will everyone stop being so willfully ignorant about the racist implications of the Confederate flag in this country?
To be fair, the Walmart employee who agreed to fulfill this particular order had no idea what the heck they were doing.
“An associate in a local store did not know what the design meant and made a mistake,” a spokesperson for the company told ABC News. “The cake should not have been made and we apologize.”
